The Modern Reef Aquarium Vol 3

Chapters covering worms, sponges, crustaceans, filter feeders as well as many other reef aquarium inhabitants. Ever find a nudibranch you couldn't identify? NOT ANY LONGER! Finally, chapter 7 covers 43 of the finest reef aquariums from around the world. A MUST READ!

The Modern Coral Reef Aquarium Vol. 3 starts out with a small chapter putting the animals we keep into an evolutionary perspective. Chapter 2 contents microscopic single-celled animals that are so important for the biological balance of any aquarium. Chapter 3 takes a look at the sponges, true filter feeders among the invertebrates. Chapter 4 deals with many small invertebrate phyla - such as the sea spiders and the water bears - most of which are rarely described in other aquarium books.

The huge chapter 5 covers all the phyla commonly called "Marine Worms". Here you will find scientifically updated information on all sorts of marine worms as well as unique photos and comments on those species and groups frequently found in your reef aquarium. Do not miss the chance to view and learn about these interesting groups of animals! Chapter 6 tells you a lot on the Crustaceans, a group of invertebrates that have been popular among aquarists since the beginning of the marine hobby. You will find a well of new information on the most common species seen in the trade as well as presentations of more uncommon, but never-the-less highly interesting species for the reef enthusiasts.

The most important species, from an aquarist’s point of view, are given particularly thorough coverage, often in the form of full page or double page summaries, with several photos and detailed "at-a-glance" information on e.g. distribution, size, food, and general aquarium husbandry, as well as reproduction potential.

Last, but certainly not least, chapter 7 presents 43 private reef aquaria from all over the world. Here you will find interesting photos, technical descriptions as well as a lot of information on the animals inhabiting the different tanks. VOLUME 4
The Modern Reef Aquarium Vol 4

Molluscs, such as snails, slugs and bivalves, commonly found in the trade are discussed in detail. Like in previous volumes of this book series, also more obscure and rare members of the phylum are covered to the extent, which can be of value to the marine aquarist.

Echinoderms - or spiny skinned animals - are shown in spectacular photos, and the biology and aquarium care of the many interesting brittle stars, starfishes, sea cucumbers, and sea urchins are described in detail.

The book also discusses the interesting group of sea squirts, or tunicates. These organisms, which are very insufficiently covered in most aquarium books, are dealt with  in detailed accuracy and illustrated with magnificent color photos.

As an introduction to the book, Dr. Bruce Carlson (former Director of the Waikiki Aquarium, Hawaii) has written a fascinating chapter on "The Future of Reef Aquariums".
